1841 – The first section of the Bristol and Exeter Railway's main line is opened between Bristol and Bridgwater.^[1]^[2]
1873 – The Denver, South Park and Pacific Railway is reorganized with greater capital as the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad.

1901 – The Atlantic City Railroad (predecessor of the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines) is incorporated from the merger of the Camden County Railroad, Ocean City Railroad and Seacoast Railroad.
1936 – The M-10004 streamliner trainset enters service on the City of San Francisco passenger train.
1959 – The Disneyland Monorail System, in Anaheim, California, opens, becoming the first daily operating monorail in the western hemisphere.

1840 – William F. Nast, president of Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad in September 1868, is born (d. 1893).

1888 – Charles Crocker, a member of The Big Four group of financiers in California (b. 1822).
