Population of St. Louis MSA

[edit]

The article said St. Louis has over 3 million people. WRONG! That is a gigantic fudge of numbers and is totally inaccurate. St. Louis' MSA by 2006 census standards is just passing the 2.8 million mark (and at the MSA's current low growth rate it's probably not going to reach 3 million for at least another 10 years)-- and that's according to the article on Greater St. Louis. I am changing the wording to say "almost" 3 million people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Enorton (talkcontribs) 08:46, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Third most affluent: West county? I don't think so!

[edit]

Where is the evidence presented in the statement that West County St. Louis is the third most affluent area in the midwest. Johnson County, Kansas is more affluent by most people's standards (it happens to be the third most affluent county in the nation). You need to cite that wherever it came from or I will remove it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.150.147.154 (talk) 04:28, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The above comment was made by me. You all have one week from this post to present evidence that the western area of St. Louis county is the "third most" affluent area in the midwest or that statistic will be removed. That is being pulled out of thin air.

Found a source that says it is the second most affluent area. http://www.shopwestcountycenter.com/SITEPL~1.NSF/0/04D634F5103659868525739800755618/$File/WestCountyCenter_08_LS.pdf?openelement

"Facts West County Center is strategically positioned along I-270 and Manchester Road just south of I-64, and north of both I-44 and I-55, just 10 miles west of downtown St. Louis. More than 35% of this affl uent community offers an average household income of over $100,000 and is the largest area of high- income residents in the midwest with the exception of Chicago’s North Shore. In addition, St. Louis County is the largest county in Missouri and has the highest per capita income in the state. I don't think a pamphlet by WEST COUNTY MALL that cites no other source (a government source, census data, ect) is sufficient evidence to clarify this claim. If you want to make a claim that West County of St. Louis, Missouri is more affluent than places like southern Johnson County Kansas (the third most affluent county in America), or other areas in the midwest, you need to provide sufficient proof. A mall pamphlet that is written by a developer attempting to attract tenants is really not good evidence.

This sentence needs reworked

[edit]

"St. Louis has an abundance of exceptional private schools although the public schools in the area are much more recognized throughout the nation." It's tone is all wrong for an encylopedia, sounds more like a Chamber of Commerce. Jon 17:57, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, the unintended humor of that heading... but, much of this article needs to be re-written. I've done West County to my taste since I'm a rich old money Bush-voting affluent Jew who grew up there and is therefore familiar with it.davewho2 04:48, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Politics

[edit]

I feel that St. Louis is a significantly big enough county that I could place the past presidential election tables to give people the perspective of St. Louis County historical political beliefs... I need a go ahead because some people consider it vandalismJustinPacificaCA 02:11, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incomplete source

[edit]

There are over a dozen incomplete references - i.e. to "Cohn", "Thomas", "Davison" - and no indication what these works actually are: no title, no publication date, etc. Does anyone know what these references are? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Astral milkweed (talkcontribs) 21:28, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Very good point. They started being introduced four years ago but the user who added them last edited on 17/10/2014 so while we could ask them, it's probably not going to work. My guess is that they were lifted from some other article and the intended matching up of the sources never took place. Tricky! Is it worth looking at related articles in case there's an obvious link somewhere? 82.34.71.202 (talk) 21:59, 17 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Article main photo

[edit]

While the Old Courthouse does play an important role in the history of St. Louis County, and a photo of the building should be on the page, it really should not be the first photo one sees when reaching the article. Not only is it confusing but it's a bit embarrassing to St. Louis County. Perhaps a photo of the Police Memorial Plaza in Clayton if anyone has one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.84.157.233 (talk) 03:01, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Old Courthouse

[edit]

I agree with a previous poster that the Old Courthouse should not be the lead photo on this page. The Old Courthouse is not even located in Saint Louis County. A photo of the County building or the Clayton skyline would be more appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PartTimeEditor (talkcontribs) 03:05, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
