Copyedit notices

Hi, i noticed that whenever i put up a copyedit or clean up notice on one of the articles you contributed you "deleted" everything. Please understand that such notices are not meant to be offensive towards the writer(s) of the article. They merely call for attention from other users to improve the article collectively, whether content-wise or language-wise.

i personally think the article on Tea Classics is very comprehensive. However, it does not conform to Wikipedia standards and is rather messy to read. That was why i put up the wikify and clean up notices.

As for Wang Tao, there were many grammatical and spelling errors. i didn't have time to copyedit the article myself, which was why i put up the copyedit notice to call for attention from many Wikipedians out there who had the time and expertise (some Wikipedians are dedicated to copyediting articles).

Chop Suey

Hi, I like your contribs, but I've read the website references you added. The stories contradict each other, and some do not attribute the origins of Chop Suey to the Chinese diplomat. The earlist restaurant serving Chop Suey was Hong Far Low(meaning Red Flower Restaurant) in Boston in 1880's. There is a Hong Far Low Chop Suey menu on display at the "Chinese restaurant in America" Exhibition in Museum of Chinese in the Americas in New York. This 125 years old Chop Suey menu clearly proves beyong any doubt that Chop Suey was Chinese restaurant invention. You have absolute no evidence whatsovever to prove otherwise. Wikimedia Canada

I don't think it is a good idea to establish a Wikimedia Canada chapter, it only serves to fragmentize en:wikipedia. Currently there is only one English language en:wikipedia with nearly one million entries. There are many English speaking countries, England, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Canada etc. There is no US:Wikipedia nor Au:wikipedia why need a CA:wikipedia ??

One can find all about Canada in en:wikipedia. If you put Canadian related articles in ca:wikepedia, the net result will be far less people reading these article. Gisling 19:19, 16 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm afraid you're slightly mistaken about Wikimedia Canada's (WMC) purpose. These are a few points about WMC's planned operations.

1. In the last donation drive, CDN$11,473.05 was donated by our nation. None of that was tax-deductable, as it was donated to an American charity. People donating within Canada will now be able to get tax receipts.
2. We'll be able to better organize programs to encourage the development of Wikipedia/Wikisource/Wiktionary in native languages that are loosing ground in an Anglocentric world.
3. We'll organize meetups, to encourage the community aspect of the project.
4. It becomes easier to plan representation at local events or conferences.
5. Increased voice on matters presented to the board.
6. Start projects to encourage new Canadian content. Encourage local historical groups, museums, town councils, boards of trade to add local info.
7. Within the projects, increase Canadian content in internationally relevant articles.
8. Occasionally take up moderate political causes that benefit the Wikimedia Foundation, such as loosening Crown copyright.

While we will have a website for WMC, it will only be to organize these activities, not create a seperate resource. Also, we are out to promote Canada not only in English Wikimedia projects, but also French, and to a lesser extent native languages or any other language. -- user:zanimum

Finch Bus Terminal

I noticed you moved Finch Bus Terminal by adding GO to the name of the article. Because you have made no other changes to related articles or templates, I consider this frivolous and have moved it back. Although there might be some validity to making this move, the terminal is one of a group which all have the same naming convention. Further disambiguation is not necessary as the nearby subway station is suffixed with TTC. If you feel that the GO Bus Terminals shoud be renamed please start a discussion at the Talk:GO Transit page; where you will see that there has already been a lot of work put into naming GO Stations. I quoted Ma Huan not Menzies. Ma Huan's book is the most authentic book about Zheng He's voyage, it was fully translated into English. It was a fact of history, that many Chinese travellers from Tang dynasty thru Ming dynasty visited Indonesia--Gisling (talk) 13:38, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Fact in relation to any history of indonesia prior to various dates is one whole separate issue - I am not debating chinese visits - why there is a whole school of thought that freaks out xenophobic javanese muslims that their islamic origins were via chinese origins - as long as your are aware that the menzies issue is not one that we want in the indonesian project just yet :) - my apologies for misinterpreting your edit - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasion_of_Java might give you an idea of some of the issues - that i have responded to rightly or wrongly - there are some javanese sources for that suprisingly enough SatuSuro 13:47, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Dave, the tea house was in Nanjing presidential palace, very nice place with large garden, and historic museums, a must see for any visitor to Nanjing. They served Longjing tea, Biluochun tea, in this tea house beside a pond, quite nice place. Regards Gisling (talk) 02:51, 7 July 2008 (UTC).

Decimal

Hi Gisling, I agree with your comment at Decimal. However, I suggest that, instead of replacing the Indian section, you write a separate Chinese section. Rather than making "priority" claims, the most objective procedure would be to provide specific dates. The reader should be intelligent enough to figure out for himself who was first. I have marked you as a reviewer

I have added the "reviewers" property to your user account. This property is related to the Pending changes system that is currently being tried. This system loosens page protection by allowing anonymous users to make "pending" changes which don't become "live" until they're "reviewed". However, logged-in users always see the very latest version of each page with no delay. A good explanation of the system is given in this image. The system is only being used for pages that would otherwise be protected from editing.

If there are "pending" (unreviewed) edits for a page, they will be apparent in a page's history screen; you do not have to go looking for them. There is, however, a list of all articles with changes awaiting review at Special:OldReviewedPages. Because there are so few pages in the trial so far, the latter list is almost always empty. The list of all pages in the pending review system is at Special:StablePages.

To use the system, you can simply edit the page as you normally would, but you should also mark the latest revision as "reviewed" if you have looked at it to ensure it isn't problematic. Edits should generally be accepted if you wouldn't undo them in normal editing: they don't have obvious vandalism, personal attacks, etc. If an edit is problematic, you can fix it by editing or undoing it, just like normal. You are permitted to mark your own changes as reviewed.

The "reviewers" property does not obligate you to do any additional work, and if you like you can simply ignore it. The expectation is that many users will have this property, so that they can review pending revisions in the course of normal editing. The formatting above is weird. I changed it to this:

Architecture of the Song Dynasty

Hi there. In December of 2008 you added to the article Architecture of the Song Dynasty the source "Li Jie/ Liang Sicheng p46". NickDupree and I are trying to get that article relisted for GA, but we can't find that book. If you could give us the title and ISBN of the source you used, we would be able to get everything in Harvard citations, which is the gold standard on Wikipedia. We also have to get rid of the 'ibid' citations, and replace them with full detail citations, so having someone around who wrote the article and knows it better than we do would be ideal.

The full list of four things needed to get the article to GA status is at Talk:Architecture of the Song Dynasty if you're interested. It includes two {{cn}} tags and a section that needs work, as well as the citation rework and a copyedit.

梁思成 营造法式注释 ， 梁思成全集 第七卷 中国建筑出版社 ISBN 7-112-04431-6. This 500+ pages work covers the whole vol 7 of Complete Works of Liang Sicheng, it is the most authentic section by section annotation( not translation) of Li Jie's Yingzao Fashi, a must read reference to any one seriously interested in Yingzao Fashi. I have Liang edtion, Tao edition and Siku Quanshu edition of Yingzao Fashi in my library--Gisling (talk) 04:46, 15 November 2011 (UTC).

Chop suey

Gisling, you did a blanket revert of my edits. If you look carefully, you see that I did not bulk-delete Asugar2's contributions. I removed the (massive) redundancies and the poorly-sourced and wordy material, and summarized his drunken-miner story. Much of what he added was not specific to chop suey, but talked about Chinese-American cuisine in general. And it was all written in very poor English. Could you please restore my edits? Actually, User:Future Perfect at Sunrise already undid them, because they were copyright violations. I don't know how xe came to that conclusion for sure, but it does seem likely to me because the tone of that writing is very much like a travel book or blog, and thus I would not be surprised to find it came from elsewhere. As a side note, Gisling, it's not actually true that we can't do "bulk deletions". When someone adds new information to an article, and others question it, they are not required to tag it first and wait for some indefinite time for the person to return and clean it up. They can do so, if they believe the basic info is good and worth keeping, but that massive addition was completely wrong for the article, and, even if it weren't a copy-vio, would require so much massive changes that it's not worth keeping and cleaning up. User:Asugar2 seems to have just lifted these paragraphs with only minor changes to their framing (such as changing "I spent the weekend reading my friend Jenny Lee’s new book" to "In Jenny Lee’s new book"). Image warring

There's now a three way edit war over the images in the article. It would have been one thing if this all happened before the article became a GA, and I invited you to participate in that process (you never responded), but now that it's a GA, we need stability. I'm just going to revert everything that happened today and start a new thread, where the three of us can discuss any image issues, then make one big change once everything is decided. There are two issues here: 1) what is strictly Song dynasty architecture ? Should this article include Liao dynasty or Jin dynasty architecture as well ? IMO, we should not. Also, if a pagoda was built in Song dynasty, then renovated at later dynasties, it is a Song tower, on the other hand if completely rebuilt after Song dynasty, it should NOT be be classified as a Song dynasty tower.

No, it should not contain Liao or Jin architecture, those are different dynasties, and would, in a perfect world, have separate articles. Going by the other articles in the series, XXXX of the Song Dynasty articles only cover what happened during the Song Dynasty, in areas controlled by the Song Dynasty. 2)Criteria of photograph to include in GA or featured article IMO, photograph should at least >2000 x 2000, that is the criteria for selection of "featured image". IMO, it is important to let people see the fine details of architecture, the brickworks, the decor etc, not just an "artful" but fuzzy picture without detail. There is absolutely no criteria for image size in articles, and for good reason. We use the best images available, and while size is one factor, it's not the only factor. Competition and especially in this case color factor in. I haven't been to the pagoda, so I'll have to trust you on this, but is the pagoda the iron color in the original photo, or is it the brownish color in your photo? I am concerned about the references for the article Fujita–Storm equation which you created. Please comment at the article talk page. Of concern is that, for example, the reference to page 135 of Graham W. Griffiths William E.Shiesser Traveling Wave Analysis of Partial Differential Equations is to a page referring to the Fisher-Kolmogorov equation which appears to support none of these articles. Furthermore, Google Books does not show any of the article titles as appearing in any of the books. Please clarify what these references are supposed to be supporting in these articles. Eckhaus equation

Hello Gisling, the article Eckhaus equation (which you created) addressed the wrong equations, so I changed it. Further the references you provided, like

do not mention the Eckhaus equation at all. Your way of adding citations – i.e. adding references which do not mention at all the subject of the articles you created – have also been noticed in some user contributions above.

Further, I do not comprehend what the simulations you added to many articles depict: they lack a proper description/caption: i.e. of which solution to the equations – and under which conditions – they try to simulate.

Mathematical notation

Please see my edits to Carotid–Kundalini function.

Note that you can write things like

$3\cos x\,$

coding it as 3\cos x, rather than

$3*cos(x)\,$

with "cos" instead of \cos. And you can write

$3\cdot 5{\text{ or }}3\times 5\,$

so using and asterisk, as in

$3*5\,$

is not necessary. An asterisk in that role is a workaround for situations where you are limited to the characters on the keyboard. Also

${\frac {\pi }{2}}\,$

rather than something like

$Pi/2\,$

However, notice that in both the original and the newly edited versions, two of the subscripts say "c" whereas one of those should say "s". I'd change it if I knew which one.

Bretherton equation

As for the Eckhaus equation, in Bretherton equation you added references which do not refer at all to this equation. I checked some of the references you provided:

• Graham W. Griffiths & William E. Shiesser (2012) Traveling Wave Analysis of Partial Differential Equations, Academic Press
• Richard H. Enns & George C. McGuire (1997) Nonlinear Physics with Maple, Birkhauser

Both do not mention the Bretherton equation at all. Further

• Eryk Infeld & George Rowlands (2000) Nonlinear Waves, Solitons and Chaos, Cambridge University Press

gives a few times a reference to the Bretherton 1964 paper, but does not provide the equation itself, or a discussion of its characteristics and implications. Wikipedia articles are to be based on reliable sources, and these references -- although reliable -- are not sources on the Bretherton equation.
