One of Germany's most important authors and poets (January 1797 - May 24, 1848). That is her image on the Deutschemark banknote until it was replaced by the Euro in 2002.Triton
Also said to be related to the important Droste family of the Netherlands, see Droste Chocolates in Haarlem, Holland who in turn are connected to the American Delano family of Franklin (Delano) Roosevelt.Triton
Note the change of date of her death. Please amend this if you have more definite info.Arcturus 19:05, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Much of the text of this page as it stands Tue Jul 27 19:10:45 EDT 2010 was copied from an old Encyclopedia Britannica: http://www.1911encyclopedia.org/Annette_Elisabeth%2C_Freiin_von_Droste-Hulshoff . Which is OK I guess; it's out of copyright. But some evaluative comments like "but... one looks in vain for a touch of sentimentality or melting sweetness in it" are dated and not appropriate for the 21st century (leaving the implied sexism aside, nowadays that's considered a strength). The German Wikipedia has more and better information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.118.94.188 (talk) 23:21, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
