Sourcing

[edit]

Much of the text from this article was seemingly taken from: http://www.ridgecrest.ca.us/~auborn/harriers/harrier_info.html and as such, I am adding that link to the Article - Dleifelohcs 00:05, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Hares"?

[edit]

Don't understand why the quotes. In English usage at least, a hare and a rabbit are not the same animal, and rabbit-hunting isn't a sport the way hare-hunting is. English rabbits go to ground in burrows. Hares dwell in "forms", above-ground lairs, and so can be chased with harriers. Rabbits, when hunted for sport (or the working-class table, traditionally), are hunted with terriers or ferrets, to either dig them out or catch them underground.
