My question what do you feel about Louis Riel? EX: He was sane\insane.
NPOV
[edit]This article does not maintain NPOV. There is a heated polemic among legal historians as to whether Riel's trial was properly conducted or not, and this article implicitly but decisively sides with those who say it was not. It should be edited to show both sides of the debate. I added some citations and an "according to critics" clause. I'd like to hear what others have to say, but if no one replies I'll make more extensive edits. (To clarify my position, I agree with the original author that it was *not* properly conducted, but believe that this encyclopedia must be neutral between the two sides.) I agree. The trial is highly controversial and due to NPOV any Wikipedia articles should be as balanced and unbiased as possible. It would help perhaps to note both standard historical views of the trial in the article so readers can draw their own conclusions. Wyldkat Oct 14, 2007

Louis Riel Rebellion
[edit]I need some help with a question I have. I have a metal given out to NWMP in 1885. I has "NORTH WEST 1885 CANADA" on one side, the other side has the image of who I think is Queen Victoria and has the words "VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX".
My Great Grandfather William Payne was a NWMP out of Fort McCloud Alberta, I have been told these metals were given to those who helped with the Riel rebellion. Is this true? If not what was it awarded for. I also have my Grandfathers handgun he used during this period. My father says he remembers his Grandfather having a piece ot the rope used to hang Riel. Was the rope cut into short lengths and given to members of the NWMP?
Would anyone with more specific information on this please respond to me at, paynefamily5@comcast.net
