Wikipedia:GLAM/Vallarta Botanical Gardens

Vallarta Botanical Gardens is a non-profit botanical garden in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. This project is a place to coordinate collaboration between the Wikipedia community and friends of the Vallarta Botanical Garden.

Collaboration with Wikipedia

Vallarta Botanical Gardens' mission is to preserve its botanical garden, promote regional conservation, encourage research of the local plants and animals, and to make it easier for everyone to access information about the garden and everything related to it. Initial collaboration ideas include the following:

1. Sharing images and other media produced at the gardens. Usually this will happen by file uploads to Wikimedia Commons. Following that, files may be integrated into Wikipedia articles, species:Wikispecies entries, and elsewhere.
2. Vallarta Botanical Gardens might wish to develop a gallery in Wikipedia to create a curated collection of the specimens in the garden and an online overview of what it has shared in Wikimedia projects.
3. Looking beyond the sharing, the Gardens wish to learn how audience tracking works for Wikimedia projects. With reporting of how many people see Vallarta Botanical Garden content in Wikimedia projects, the garden hopes to write a case study, then present Wikimedia projects as an information distribution model to other botanical gardens. The idea would be that if a garden added information to Wikimedia projects about its plants and animals, then more people would take interest in the mission of the gardens who report these things about themselves.
4. In other ways, the garden seeks to follow some of the precedent set by the WP:GLAM project, in which "galleries, libraries, archives, and museums" share their media with Wikimedia projects to reach larger audiences.
