Sasuke-Gundan
[edit]I'm from Japan. Sasuke is the name of one of ninjas though Onsokumaru sometimes calls them 'Sasuke-Gundan'. And it seems there are also Saizo and Kogenta.
- It seems to me like they're all named Sasuke (and thus referred to collectively as the Sasuke Army)... --193.11.222.179 05:02, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Nope. Sasuke is only 1 ninja. It's called 'Sasuke-Gundan' because Sasuke is the class leader. The original poster is right about the presence of Kogenta and the rest.60.49.45.145 00:13, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
They have different voices, so they're different individuals. Though it's hard to tell one from another. The ninjas with names are: Sasuke, Saizo, and Kogenta. Refer to Episode 10, part II. 60.50.33.143 23:56, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Cuts
[edit]Has some material been cut from the article? I seem to recall there being another section that is gone now. Michael Hopcroft 17:47, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
Characters
[edit]I added some information about the Japanese seiyu for the characters within the Character Descriptions, and left space for the English VA's when they are announced. I ask that that space for the English VA's be left for now and if anyone finds out who is playing which rolethey fill it in as they learn that information. Also please leave those two bits of information combined with the character descriptions. I've seen other areas with extra spaces for the Japanese seiyu and English VA information and it all seems like it is repeating the same character names just for the sake of adding one bit of information that could have been given early, so please leave them combined and please someone add the English VA's whoever knows them as they are known, thanks. Ryokosha 23:50, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Trivia
[edit]I also added a few sections this was one, so far this is basically the trivia I knew from other places but it comes directly from another site I credit and link too as a resource. If anyone else has more or different ones to add feel free to do so, and if that must be changed I guess it must just please let me know here why it had to be changed since I do all I can to credit the original source, thank you. Editing Process
[edit]I have begun attempting to reform this article into something approaching readable English. The pain was just too much. However, there have been so many formatting changes that it looks like it is going to be a difficult and time-consuming task. I've also beung to do a little reorganizing as well, but it is going to take some time, thought, and probably help. Michael Hopcroft 05:10, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Kaede returning Shinobu's feelings?
[edit]By the end of the series, Kaede is shown to have either acknowledged Shinobu's feelings for her, or possibly even returning Shinobu's feelings, because she custom-made a pair of sweaters with the initials of hers, and Shinobu's first names. The subtext here is that of 'S' for 'Shinobu' snaking around 'K' for Kaede. The second point is that Kaede is deeply affected by the news of Shinobu leaving. Judging by Kaede's character personality, I get the impression that Kaede has developed feelings for Shinobu, and missed her deeply after she left. This is perhaps fuelled by the ambiguous statement by Kaede at the end of Episode 6, where she says something along the lines of "At that time, I did not realise her destiny and how important it was." One way it could be interpreted is that Shinobu had become very important in Kaede's life.
Now the question is: Should a mention of this issue be included in the article under the Themes section?
Anyway, a bonus:

This is an official picture of Shinobu and Kaede, with their clothes exchanged. Yuri, or Lilies, can be seen in the picture, indicating the obvious subtexts in the image and series ('Yuri' indicates lesbian relationships, in Japanese anime/manga).

Um, well it's kinda hard to tell if she's returning her feelings or not. She seems like just a really good friend most of the time and is really freaked out by Shinobu's affection.
One notable incident though was (i think...) the episode when Kaede has a cold. Shinobu catches it, and she lying in a sleeping bag and is talking to Kaede. Then Kaede bends down to Shinobu. The camera is intentionally far away so you can't see what's happening. but unless I'm much mistaken, Kaede kissed Shinobu on the cheek! And this is supported by how Shinobu is so overcome, and how she offers Kaede a space in the sleeping-bag as if they are a couple. However, Kaede promptly afterwards decides this is too much. :D Leemorrison 22:09, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- ehehehe, ok I just watched the episode again. She didn't kiss her, she was taking her temperature. Oops, my bad! Lol! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.7.123.76 (talk) 19:19, 3 May 2007 (UTC).
- The scene where Kaede opens the sliding doors can also be interpreted as trying to let in some fresh air, you know, like to clear your head. 60.50.34.182 17:09, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Copyediting
[edit]I'm doing a quick run-through as a passer-by who thought that the copyedit template didn't really suit the page (and as a shinobuden fan). A lot of the stuff in the lead section was disjointed (that ninin comment smack-dab in the middle of describing what the anime was about without telling anyone why that means anything), POV (attractive, cute, etc), and there was some repetition (English anime names). The tone wasn't right either, could really tell what was off, but it was. I've had a go through the lead, and I'll jog through the rest of the stuff. - Omnisentry 12:51, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm removing these paragraphs from Themes and References.
- Being a ninja has no self-evident correlation to the plots of the episodes, it is a way of poking fun at exaggerated heroes of other anime(Ero-jutsu and Ero-ninja are a recurrent, main category in the series). When Kaede first comes round, it instantly becomes evident that the (い) class is a bunch of neurotical(Onsokumaru) and hedonistic(He and all the others) perverts. Onsokumaru is always ready to coerce or encourage his subordinates into doing something indecent/foolish, from making tasteless(sometimes deliberately lame) jokes through being a peeping tom, up to abusing hallucinogenic drugs(in the form of poisonous mushrooms) in immeasurable quantities, repeatedly.
- The audience is lead to believe that all those ninja are not as incompetent as it may seem first, however, it is just another way of delivering jabs at anime that take themselves too seriously.
Some of it belongs in characters (Onsokumarus tendancies), some of it seems like Original Research (everything about Shinobuden poking fun at everything else) and some of it is just hard to read. Furthermore, including "the (い) class" is TERRIBLE, as the class name is not mentioned anywhere else in the article, and just looks like a randomly placed Japanese character for no good reason. Also, it needs to be reworded to reduce the amount of parantheses. It might not be salvagable, but you may want to pick it apart for something useful maybe - Omnisentry 13:20, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Removed Bon-Odori trivia. It's not notable when an anime references a Bon Festival, it's fairly common. Also, again with the POV ("Suprisingly down-to-earth" "terminally cute"). - Omnisentry 13:29, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Right, that's it for me. However, we do need someone to run through for grammar and spelling (I always tend to stuff those up), and of course to second-guess everything I've done. So I think the copyedit template stays for the moment until someone else has a look at it. - Omnisentry 13:34, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
serie parodies
[edit]In the anime other series are mentioned like Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Gundam and Harry Potter. Are there any others? - Alex 'phoenix' Wing
- Naruto appears to be a consistent one that I noticed. --BrokenSphere 17:37, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
Another one is that of Sailor Moon. It's in episode 12 pt 1. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.246.246.238 (talk) 23:41, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Another round of edits
[edit]As other edits have done over the past year I'm going to spend some time at improving this article, with a particular emphasis on fixing any remaining copy edit issues so we can remove the CopyEdit tag. I'll also take a shot at some references and production details. MkDoyle 14:06, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- About the Trivia section: I don't think the part about the English VA for Onsokumaru being the director of other English dubs of anime or other VA roles qualifies to be trivia. If that qualifies, then there would be a whole lot of VA info that doesn't pertain to Ninin Ga Shinobuden (e.g. Norio Wakamoto, the voice of Onsokumaru, is also the voice actor for Chiyo-chichi in Azumanga Daioh, Vicious in Cowboy Bebop, Kagato in Tenchi series, etc., or Ayako Kawasumi, the voice of Kaede, is also the voice actor for Aoi in Ai Yori Aoshi, Chikane in Kannazuki no Miko, Matsuri in Ichigo Mashimaro, Kazumi in Shakugan no Shana, etc..).
- Regarding another issue, the author of Ninin Ga Shinobuden isn't Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, but rather, Koga Ryoichi, it wasn't first published in 1995 (it was serialized in 2000), it wasn't serialized in Shonen Ace (it was serialized in Dengeki Daioh), and it isn't still ongoing. There are also only 4 Volumes of the manga (the series has ended too). I'll make the necessary corrections. Flameoftheabyss 14:55, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the manga corrections. I had spent some time trying to figure out if there really *were* 9 manga volumes, since I could only find 4. I didn't change it because my japanese isn't very good and I couldn't prove there weren't. :-)
- About the trivia, you've got a good point although I'm inclined to leave it in just because it's, well, trivia, which by nature is factual curiosity more then relevance. I don't object to it being taken out if you feel strongly about it. MkDoyle 19:04, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
Absurdest?
[edit]Are you sure that's how to spell it? Maybe it's a Firefox mistake. Leemorrison 16:22, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
US Rating
[edit]The US/NTSC Rating is 15+ if anyone cares to add it to the infobox. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.168.19.135 (talk) 20:38, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
Ninja Nonsense Title
[edit]I suggest we move this to "Ninja Nonsense" rather then the Japanese name, sense it is more reconizable under the official english name. The title shoudl be "Ninja Nonsense" not "Ninin Ga Shinobuden " - Prede (talk) 20:51, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. I went ahead and moved it. Argel1200 (talk) 16:15, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
But you made a typo in the name! ("Nonesense") Could someone correct this? Giles Martin (talk) 06:46, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
