• 1872 – The Coleford Railway (pictured) is chartered to build a railroad between Wyesham and Coleford, Gloucestershire, England.
• 1892 – The Pine Bluff, Monroe and New Orleans Railroad is reorganized as the Pine Bluff and Eastern Railroad (a Cotton Belt predecessor).
• 1910 – A passenger train traveling through dense fog hits a stationary locomotive in Richmond, Victoria, Australia, killing nine people on the moving train.
• 1995 – Indian Railways orders its first WDG-2 locomotive.
