Position
[edit]It seems appropriate for Rivera to be listed as "Relief pitcher", as that was his role he was most notable for and was used as the majority of his career. At a prior discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Baseball/Archive_39#Pitcher.27s_position_in_infobox, there was no consensus to only use "Pitcher" and not "Relief pitcher" or "Starting pitcher" (see Clayton Kershaw).—Bagumba (talk) 02:47, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- Personally I think we should just stick to the 10 generic positions, but i'm not gonna put up a fuss. Y2kcrazyjoker4 has had control issues over this article for a while now anyway.--Yankees10 18:03, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
- I'm sorry trying to keep the article at FA quality (e.g. maintaining things that passed FA review) and not changing things for which there is no consensus means I have control issues. There is a distinct difference between pitchers that served in the starting rotation and pitchers that pitched out of the bullpen. If a player alternated between starting and relieving over their career or had different stages of their career in terms of starting or relieving, it makes perfect sense not to make any distinction and to just list "Pitcher". Let me be clear: I'm not in favor of mentioning bullpen roles (setup man, LOOGY, closer, which aren't set in stone and can vary from game to game). But if a player served as a starter or a reliever for 99% of the games of their career, why not call that out in their position? It certainly is more illuminating and provides more context to their career statistics if you make note of it. Y2Kcrazyjoker4 (talk • contributions) 14:44, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Non-notable awards
[edit]I noticed the Thurman Munson Award listed when someone took the unlinked award and linked only the "Thurman Munson" part. Along with Clutch Performer of the Month, should these be deleted if there's no background in prose about what these awards are, and there is no wikilink to get more information. Sure it's verifiable he won these, but they seem too minor to leave in an FA as well as someone with Rivera's extensive and more notable accomplishments.—Bagumba (talk) 07:21, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
Trump Historical Context Removed
[edit]Y2kcrazyjoker4 wrote "Now it reads like Trump is the highest civilian award in the US". That is on odd statement as well as an odd reason for a reversion. The added context was historically accurate (ie. noting the president at the time the award was made). Why would you remove that accurate context? Please explain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GeorgeSchiro (talk • contribs) 16:14, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

explain why the topic is notable, and summarize the most important points.
