Copyvio
[edit]The first revision of this article seems to have been split off from the Wikipedia article "Gradualism". Its "ibid" refers back to a work cited on that page. The "copyvio" template was misplaced, as http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/ is a mirror of Wikipedia. --rbrwr± 20:35, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I had previously put the copyvio tag on the page and I agree with Rbrwr's analysis. I wikified the article and put the proper source in this article as well (to prevent further confusion). Rl 07:55, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Lead weakness
[edit]I added some See Alsos and wikilinks to articles I had to scan in order to understand this one.
In the Lead, the explanation that "a species evolves to use a preexisting structure" needs to be expanded/clarified. E.g. What is a 'structure'? What are some "pre-existing" structures (e.g. vestigial, cryptic variation, hitchhiker, so-far-unexpressed mutation, ????) which might be brought into play?
The phrase "potentially unrelated function" is vague/abstruse. Please concretize more. Fascinating topic, and understanding evolves, for "lay" readers like me, when ideas are more bodied out. The dinosaur and arthropod examples are helpful! Twang (talk) 20:36, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Exaptation and Preadaptation
[edit]In the introduction, I think that the use of feathers is more of an exaptation than a preadaptation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doug carragher (talk • contribs) 17:45, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
