Talk:List of Mississippians
Having gone to the trouble to merge the old List of Famous Mississippians with this one, I wonder: what categories are we using? Is being born in Mississippi a necessary criterion? If so, then both Hiram Revels and Jefferson Davis should be knocked off the list. Is growing up there enough? If so, then Dana Andrews probably does not belong. I'm willing to be flexible, but since I didn't start the list and no one has defined "Mississippian" with any precision. but . . .
Also, is fame a criterion? If not, then we could augment the list by naming all of the governors and a lot more senators and representatives. I assume that there is some unstated standard that includes Ross Barnett, but not Paul Johnson (Sr. or Jr.).
Also, is it worth listing place of birth for those who actually were born in Mississippi? I have to confess I have an outsider's fascination with Itta Bena, Tupelo, Kosciusko, etc.--Italo Svevo 03:20, 9 May 2005 (UTC)
